NURSES DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS

Mission statement

The mission of the Nurses Democratic Caucus (NDC) is to educate and engage Democratic nurse voters across the State of Ohio who share the following beliefs:

All individuals have a right to high quality, affordable, and cost-effective healthcare.

Healthcare should be easily accessible and available in a variety of community based sites.

Healthcare consists of more than treating illness; it includes health promotion, illness prevention, easement of suffering, death with dignity, and reproductive choice.

All discrimination by providers in the provision of health care which is based on race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, or lifestyle should be eliminated.

The individual providers of health care should reflect the diversity of the population served.

Individuals have the right to make decisions about their healthcare; healthcare providers have the obligation to provide adequate information for individuals to make those decisions.

Individuals who believe they have been harmed by the healthcare system have a right to legal redress.

Ohioans should have the right to obtain health care from the provider of choice; barriers to the services of advanced practice nurses  should be eliminated.

Services provided by nurses should be recognized and reimbursed independently of other healthcare services.

The care of populations, particularly health promotion, disease prevention and disaster preparedness, needs increased emphasis within the healthcare system.

Nurses have a right to a safe working environment with appropriate compensation and participation in decision making

Nurses should be an integral part in shaping health policy.

The NDC works toward informing nurses about nursing and healthcare positions of Democratic Party candidates, informing candidates about issues of concern to nurses, recruiting nurses to seek public office and advising nurses of  Democratic nurse candidates.
